Kei Amemiya is a partner at Morrison & Foerster/Ito & Mitomi, leading its Japanese antitrust practice in the Tokyo Office. Amemiya previously served as Investigator at the Japanese Fair Trade Commission (JFTC). When he joined the JFTC in 2001, he was the first attorney to be hired under a special law to offer legal expertise in JFTC’s investigations and administrative hearings, and with his departure in 2004, he is one of a small number of attorneys in private practice having such experience.
As the only Japanese NGA to serve under a long-term commitment, Amemiya presents and attends various ICN conferences. In addition, he advises JFTC and ICN committees on major issues, including merger review and cartel investigations from the private counsel perspective.
Amemiya is consistently recognized as a Band 1 leading competition/antitrust lawyer by Chambers Asia and is also ranked as a leading lawyer by Practical Law Company’s PLC Which Lawyer?, Best Lawyers, Who’s Who Legal, and Asialaw. He is frequently quoted by Global Competition Review for his insight on developments in Japanese competition law and has been named in the top-five list of highly recommended lawyers by Practical Law Company’s Global Counsel Handbook (Competition).
